Primates
Lovers
Primates are the animals closest to humans, so different but still somewhat similar. Studying their movements, communication, and interaction, their facial expressions, and the feeling in their eyes, you can read so much. As if they were the closest thing we have to the origin of man, since no primeval humans remain. Maybe I am projecting something in my way of looking at the monkeys, they become human, and they have to stand for things that we have been refined to show, and express. They are natural and honest, unmasked. And they have an absolutely incredible physiognomy!

“I found these fragments in the quarry, at first, when I made him… He looked so grumpy, he needed love, so I made him a lover throwing him a kiss!”

Works in Bronze
chimpanzees
I have been fascinated by the primates since 2011 when I drew them at Il Bioparo in Villa Borghese, (Rome’s Zoo). Since then I have sculpted them in different types of marble and also bronze.
Bronze – 2017, 32×18,5×10 cm

“If we look straight and deep into a chimpanzee’s eyes, an intelligent self-assured personality looks back at us. If they are animals, what must we be?”
